In summer, join other guests for drinks and canapes before dinner. In winter, share the day’s adventures over pre-dinner drinks by a roaring fire in the drawing room.
There is a well-equipped fitness room, satellite TV, a DVD library, spacious living areas with Wi-Fi and broadband internet services. Central heating keeps the lodge and guest rooms warm during winter. In summer, air conditioning keeps things comfortable.
River Birches has three guest rooms – each a quiet haven of comfort and style. They are well appointed to ensure you enjoy your stay. All rooms include:

The Admiral’s Room offers a soothing cedar hot tub to soak in after a long day’s trout fishing or sightseeing. Gaze at the stars, sip a glass of wine and completely unwind. This room also has satellite TV, DVD, and a mini bar stocked with fine New Zealand wines, champagne, chocolates and a micro-brewery beer selection.
Standing apart from the main house, the Major’s Room offers privacy and tranquillity within a lovely garden setting. Relax and enjoy the comfort of this beautifully appointed room featuring a bathroom with its own private garden, i-pod dock, tea and coffee making facilities.
Cosy, welcoming and relaxing, the Duchess Room enjoys a superb vista of the garden areas with both the room and bathroom looking out onto a private garden setting. This room enjoys the morning sunshine and features the same appointments and facilities as the Major’s room.

Positioned alongside the lodge is the newest addition, The Cottage. Set amidst the beautiful surrounds of the River Birches environment, The Cottage is a three-bedroom self-contained property with service options available if desired. Conceived with families and smaller groups in mind, those who value the privacy and spaciousness of a home.
Children staying at the Lodge up to and including 8 years – no charge, 9 – 12 years on rollaway bed in parents room, free bed, breakfast NZ$20 and dinner half price, 13 – 16 years on rollaway bed in parents room NZ$75, meals full price.

A cooked breakfast is included in the tariff. If you prefer something a little lighter, try our continental breakfast of homemade cereals and preserves, fresh seasonal fruits and yoghurt. Dinner and lunch are available by advance request. We understand current trends for low-carb, high-protein meals and individual requirements, within reason, can be accommodated (by advance request). We use only the best locally grown, organic produce whenever available.
